<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensating element having little long term deterioration by preventing light leakage in a wide field angle, and optically compensating a liquid crystal layer of a black display state in higher precision, and to provide its manufacturing method, and a liquid crystal display and a liquid crystal projector having high image quality in high field angle and high contrast by using the optical compensating element. <P>SOLUTION: The optical compensating element and its manufacturing method comprise a first optical anisotropic layer formed of an inorganic material, and a second optical anisotropic layer formed of a polymerization liquid crystal compound and having a means for holding a deoxidation atmosphere. The liquid crystal display comprises a liquid crystal element having a liquid crystal molecule sealed between a pair of electrodes, the optical compensating element arranged on both the faces or one face of the liquid crystal element, and a polarizing element arranged oppositely on the liquid crystal element and the optical compensating element. The liquid crystal projector displays images by image-forming optically modulated light by the liquid crystal display on a screen by a projection optical system by irradiating illumination light from a light source on the liquid crystal display. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
