PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an induction heating type fixing device that makes it possible to shorten First Print Out Time (FPOT) after a standby period and pass sheets of paper consecutively, by storing heat of a fixing unit. SOLUTION: In the induction heating type fixing device having an excitation coil inside a hollow fixing roller and a metal layer in the vicinity of the coil as a heat generating member, the excitation coil has a thermistor as a temperature sensor. A current having a frequency band from which the optimum frequency band of the heat generating member is excluded is applied to the excitation coil when the device is in a standby period. The excitation coil increases its temperature by itself while heat generation of the metal layer is restrained. Further, the temperature is adjusted by the thermistor. This makes it possible to store sufficient heat in the excitation coil during the standby period, shorten the FPOT after the standby period, and pass sheets of paper consecutively.
