PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plated wire for gas shield arc welding, which has an improved surface property, and is excellent in the adhesive strength between the base wire and the plated layer when the surface of the wire has been plated by copper, and can drastically improve the corrosion resistance and the feed-ability of the wire. SOLUTION: In the plated wire for gas shield arc welding, the surface portion of the wire, from which the plated layer has been removed, has undulated shape on the circumference of the cross section perpendicular to the axial direction of the wire, and further the ratio (dr/di) of the actual circumferential length (dr) to the apparent circumferential length (di) is within the range from 1.015 to 1.815. In addition, the wire has undulated shape portions arranged in the axial direction of the wire, and further the ratio (lr/li) of the actual measured length (lr) to the apparent measured length (li) is within the range from 1.015 to 1.515.
