[Also in Division C5] Wool rinsing water is purified before disposal by acidifying to pH 3-4 with a mineral acid, subjecting the acidified mixture to mechanical or air agitation to separate sludge and waste water, the sludge being separated by means of a horizontal centrifugal separator into coagulated matter and further waste water, the waste water and further waste water are neutralized and allowed to stand, and the supernatant liquid separated for disposal after air exposure and sterilization. The coagulated matter is further treated to recover wool fat (see Division C5), the residue being utilizable as a fertilizer.</p> |
