<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a freshness retaining device capable of transporting fresh food such as vegetables and fruits and fresh flowers while retaining freshness. <P>SOLUTION: This freshness retaining device 1 has a case 10, a photocatalyst filter 22 arranged oppositely to the outside of the case 10, a cold cathode fluorescent lamp 30 arranged adjacently to the phytocatalyst filter 22, a power source supplying electric power to the cold cathode fluorescent lamp 30, and a fan 40 drawing air into the case 10. Each of the parts 11a, 11b and 14 of the case 10 is formed from the same material. The power source comprises batteries.
