PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synthetic method which enables a hydrofluorocarbon compound to be produced in a high yield from a chlorine-containing fluorocompound. SOLUTION: A chlorofluorocarbon compound or a hydrochlorofluorocarbon compound having at least one chlorine atom in its molecule is dissolved in a reaction solution which is previously prepared by mixing a solvent with a hydrogen chloride scavenger and subjecting the resultant mixture to a deoxygenation treatment. By irradiating thus prepared solution with ultraviolet rays, only a reaction for substituting the chlorine atom in the chlorofluorocarbon compound or the hydrochlorofluorocarbon compound with a hydrogen atom is selectively performed. The resultant hydrofluorocarbon compound is subjected to purification distillation at a low temperature under pressure.
