PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 7-hydroxyindole or its derivative, by which the 7-hydroxyindole or its derivative can efficiently be produced at low temperature without using a substance whose safety is worried, in the reaction. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 7-hydroxyindole useful as an intermediate for medicines or its derivative includes a process for dehydrogenating a compound represented by formula (II) (R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each independently H, a halogen atom, a straight-chain or branched-chain 1 to 5C alkyl, or a straight-chain or branched-chain 1 to 5C alkoxy).
