PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper container for a powder detergent or the like having a sure and strong locking mechanism. SOLUTION: The paper container comprises a box equipped with an opening on its upper face and a lid covering the opening hinge-connected to the back face side of the box. In the paper container, a tab piece is projected and formed on the front face plate of the lid through a base end, an engaging piece with a circular arc-like end is shaped and provided by a cutting line on the vicinity of the base end of the tab piece, a folding ruled line is provided approximately horizontally from the circular arc-like end over the end of the tab piece, and on the front face plate of the box, an engaging inserting part into which the engaging piece can be inserted under a lid closing condition, is formed.
