<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an element for expansion drive used in units driven by a linear motion simple in structure, light in weight, and downsized with ease; and to provide an expansion drive unit using the element. <P>SOLUTION: The element includes a pair of ends 101, 102, and is constituted by a curvature-like sheet type material 100 having a nearly arcuate cross section. The curvature-like sheet type material 100 consists of an actuator element of a bimorph type having a laminated structure in a thickness direction, in which a solid electrolyte layer 105 is placed between an electrode layers 103 and 104.
