摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size of a frame memory by adding a configuration, while utilizing existing devices as they are, in a video playback apparatus that decodes encoded video data. <P>SOLUTION: A compression circuit A and an extension circuit B are added to an existing encoded video decoding circuit. In the compression circuit A, a frequency conversion circuit converts playback video data from the encoded video decoding circuit into frequency coefficient data, and compressed video data are obtained by performing degree-reduced IDCT processing on the frequency coefficient data. The size-reduced compressed video data that are image space data are stored in the frame memory. The extension circuit B comprises a frequency extension circuit and a frequency inverse conversion circuit for processing inverse to processing in the compression circuit A.
