PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate squelch signals even when a squelch period is short and the operation of a squelch detection circuit is insufficient. SOLUTION: A squelch circuit includes: the squelch detection circuit 16 which is supplied with transmission or reception signals, detects the squelch signals indicating the presence/absence of signals on a communication line corresponding to the above supplied signals and generates first squelch signals; and a squelch control circuit 17 which is supplied with the first squelch signals outputted from the squelch detection circuit and transmission control signals, logically operates them, generates squelch mask signals, and generates second squelch signals corresponding to the squelch mask signals and the control signals.
