PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for compressing a measurement data for continuously and efficiently performing appropriate compression processing in real time so that the compressed result meets desired conditions. SOLUTION: The device comprises a condition setting section 11 for setting conditions for collecting measurement data; a data feature extraction section 12 for extracting the feature of data from the measurement data; a compression result estimation section 14 for selecting a compression method according to the feature of the data, and for estimating the compressed results; a compression method/compression parameter determination section 15 for determining whether the compressed results meet set conditions, and for determining the compression method; and a compression processing section 40 for compressing the measurement data by the determined compression method. The compression method is dynamically selected according to the feature of the measurement data for estimating the compressed results, it is determined whether the estimated compressed result meets the set conditions, and the appropriate compression method is determined according to the results, thus efficiently performing the appropriate compression processing corresponding to the feature of the measurement data and requested conditions in real time.
