PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high purity arbutin simply and economically by surely removing hydroquinone becoming a problem among impurities contained in the arbutin. SOLUTION: This method for purifying the arbutin is provided by bringing a solution obtained by dissolving crude arbutin admixed with the hydroquinone with a good solvent towards the arbutin in contact with an adsorbent of the hydroquinone to adsorb the hydroquinone, then removing the adsorbent by an operation such as a filtration, centrifugal separation, etc., to obtain the arbutin solution without containing the hydroquinone essentially and then if necessary, mixing a solvent which is a poor solvent of the arbutin but mixing well with the good solvent, to crystallize the arbutin.
