PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a folding umbrella having superior aptitude for the cost reduction, having toughness of retaining an umbrella function even if base ribs are slightly bent by, for example, a strong wind, by preventing them from being easily broken, and capable of folding the umbrella further smaller than the conventional one. SOLUTION: The base rib 41 is constituted of a wire-shaped narrow rod with an approximately circular cross section, and is formed with flat parts 411 and 412 at its both ends.
