986,322. Door seals. B. F. GOODRICH CO. June 20, 1963 [June 21, 1962], No. 24604/63. Heading E1J. A gasket particularly for the door 12 of a refrigerator is formed of extruded elastomer and comprises a base 16 integral with the walls of a chamber securing a flexible magnet 15. As shown the chamber, Fig. 2, is initially of trapezium section with thickened side walls and is deformed towards a rectangular section, Fig. 3, as the magnet 15 "reaches out" to the refrigerator casing 11. In modification the initial shape of the chamber may be asymmetrical, or may have a convex outer surface. The gasket may be attached to the door 12 by a strip 28 engaging a portion 17 thereof. Adjacent lengths of gasket around the door are united by bevel-cutting and heat-sealing. Those lengths where the magnetic strip 15 is not required (e.g. adjacent the door hinges) may be filled with fibreglass. |
