A mobile terminal (30, 90, 150, 180, 210) having a pivoting design includes an earpiece (receiver unit) (55, 117) and a separate, dedicated loudspeaker (58, 120, 160, 190, 218) and loudspeaker port (64, 128, 170, 172, 200, 202, 214) that may direct sound toward a user when the terminal (30, 90, 150, 180, 210) is in the open position and ports the sound in a different direction when the terminal (30, 90, 150, 180, 210) is in a closed position. This separate, dedicated loudspeaker transducer (58, 120, 160, 190, 218) and loudspeaker porting (64, 128, 170, 172, 200, 202, 214) may provide separate, hands-free voice and alert signals from a position spaced from that of a conventional receiver (or earpiece) (55, 117), which may contribute to appropriately adjusted acoustic levels for a user.
