The cores of electric cable are identified by providing one or more parallel threads under a transparent coating. In the arrangement shown the conductors 3, 4 are insulated from each other by a polyvinyl plastic core encased in a transparent nylon covering, the conductor being identified by viscose rayon threads in manufacture. The threads are drawn with the core into an extrusion head when the transparent covering is applied.
