PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce pressure loss by securing a space of a gas passage without causing increase of the size of a fuel cell and degradation of strength thereof. SOLUTION: This fuel cell is provided with: an electrolyte layer; electrodes formed on both surfaces of the electrolyte layer and each having a catalyst; and gas passage formation members arranged on the respective electrodes, and each formed of a porous body having electron conductivity, wherein spaces formed in the porous bodies and comprising pores are used for passages of gas supplied to and discharged from the electrodes. In this case, the gas passage formation member, out of the gas passage formation members, on the side where the flow rate of the supplied gas is smaller is made of a carbon porous body; the gas passage formation member for forming the other gas passage is formed of a material having ductility higher than that of carbon and is made of a porous body having porosity higher than that of the carbon porous body.
