PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the fluctuation of an image signal due to the curling of a wire for driving a scanner carriage for scanning/illuminating a still original. SOLUTION: The scanner carriage is moved to a home position beyond an image area, not only in closing an original cover member, but also, in shifting to an energy saving mode and in turning off a sub power source.
