PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state (such as a granule state) of a ring-opened copolymer (especially, partially ring-opened copolymer) of a vinyl ether/maleic anhydride copolymer by an easy method. SOLUTION: A vinyl ether/maleic anhydride copolymer (such as a methyl vinyl ether/maleic anhydride copolymer) of a solid state (for example, a granule state) is subjected to the ring-opening treatment by the heating under moistening. The ring-opening treatment or the heat treatment may be carried out under the condition, for example, at a humidity of 50-99% RH and a temperature of 50-100°C. Such method can control freely and good precisely an open-ring ratio in the above ring-opened copolymer by adjusting the ring-opening treatment condition (the humidity, temperature, time, etc.).
