PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic tensioner having damping force set to be higher during compression. SOLUTION: The hydraulic tensioner 10 comprises a plunger 12 slidable in a cylinder 11 via a seal 13A with liquid tightness, a holed ring 41 provided in a first communication passage 30, and a pin 42 inserted through the holed ring 41.
