PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display apparatus preventing dark appearance of a rotary reel even when a liquid crystal cell and the rotary reel are simultaneously displayed, and having high strength. SOLUTION: The apparatus is equipped with a liquid crystal cell 12, a backlight 14 and a rotary reel 16, wherein the backlight 14 has a light guide plate 20, lamps 22, and a reflector 24. A transmissive recess portion 28 is formed on the back face of the light guide plate 20 at a position corresponding to the rotary reel 16.
