PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic radial tire capable of improving the ground contact property of a run-flat tire in a regular traveling mode, and to enhance the steerability of a vehicle without sacrificing the ride quality performance by optimizing the distribution of the thickness of a side reinforcing rubber. SOLUTION: Since the total thickness a of a wide wall part 14 at the position of the maximum thickness b of a side reinforcing rubber 18 is larger than the maximum total thickness c in an area (a thin-walled area 32) between the position of the maximum thickness b and a ground contact end 16A of a tread part 16, the transverse rigidity of the entire tire is increased, while the bending rigidity of the thin-walled area 32 is decreased. Thus, the bending moment of the side wall part 14 during the cornering is hardly transmitted to a ground contact surface of the tread part 16, the ground contact property of the tread part 16 is improved, and the cornering power is increased thereby.
