PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for molding a radial-ply pneumatic tire excellent in high speed durability and the radial-ply pneumatic tire produced by the method. SOLUTION: The method includes the first process in which after a belt layer is wound onto a cylindrical belt molding drum, a belt-like reinforcing member 3 made of rubber-coated fiber cords are wound in the circumferential direction onto the central region on the peripheral side to form the first belt cover layer 4a, the second process in which after the belt layer is detached from the belt molding drum and arranged on the peripheral side of a tire barrel 5 including a separately molded carcass, the tire barrel 5 is expanded, the third process in which outward in the width direction from both ends of the belt-like reinforcing member 3 in the first belt cover layer 4a, a new belt-like reinforcing member 3 is wound in the circumferential direction to form the second belt cover layer 4b, and the fourth process in which tread rubber is stuck on the peripheral sides of the first and second belt cover layers 4a and 4b.
