<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent variation in performance due to suction of oil from a suction muffler. <P>SOLUTION: The suction muffler 140 has a sound absorbing space 142 in which there is provided a gas flow generating means 144 for generating a gas flow 143c in a certain direction, and an oil draining hole 146 provided at a position near the bottom of the sound absorbing space 142 and on the downstream side of the gas flow 143c. Oil accumulated at the bottom of the sound absorbing space 142 due to the gas flow 143c is drained from the oil draining hole 146, and oil is prevented from being sucked into a compression chamber 134.
