PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air fuel ratio control device for an internal combustion engine always smoothly entering LAF feed back control operation and keeping drivability good. SOLUTION: In the air fuel ratio control device for the internal combustion engine provided with a proportional type air fuel ratio sensor 15 in an exhaust system of the internal combustion engine together with a catalyst device as indicated in Figure 1, and performing air fuel ratio control by having air fuel ratio detected by the proportional type air fuel ratio sensor 15 fed back and used for control of fuel injection quantity, operation condition detection means 10, 12, 13 detecting operation condition of an internal combustion engine and a judgment means 20 judging whether a feed back control condition is established or not based on detection results of the operation condition detection means 10, 12, 13 are provided. Feed back control for controlling a fuel injection means 5 is performed according to air fuel ratio detected by the proportional type air fuel ratio sensor 15 after predetermined time passes from timing when the judgment means 20 judges that the feed back control condition is established.
