PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air compressor improving unload characteristics of a displacement adjustment mechanism by a simple structure. SOLUTION: This air compressor 1A is provided with a compressor main body 11, an intake air adjusting valve 14 and a return flow passage 54, and is provided with a four way selector valve 53 provided in the return flow passage 54 and switching a communication condition between a condition 1 where one end and another end are separately communicated to a space under atmospheric pressure and a condition 2 both ends are communicated to a return flow passage 54 and are shut off from an outer part, a pressure detection means 18 detecting pressure in a delivery flow rate 15 and outputting signal indicating detected pressure or signal indicating difference between the pressure and established pressure, and a control means 55 switching the four-way selector valve 53 to the condition 1 when pressure during operation of the compressor main body 11 exceeds an established upper limit pressure PH, switching the four-way selector valve 53 to the condition 2 when the pressure falls below established lower limit pressure PL , and switching the four-way selector valve 53 to the condition 1 when the compressor main body 11 stops based on signal from the pressure detection means 18.
