PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape preparing device which can perform printing of a high quality on a correct printing medium by the acquired information in such a manner that a tape kind identification mark indicating the kind of the printing medium is continuously printed on a released paper constituting a tape cassette, and the tape kind identification mark which is printed on the release paper is directly read by a non-contact tape kind reading means. SOLUTION: This tape preparing device is equipped with non-contact tape kind discriminating sensors 4 and 5. Tapes 35 and 49 for labels are equipped with a pressure-sensitive adhesive and the release paper 16 for protecting the pressure-sensitive adhesive. The release paper 16 is equipped with a tape kind identification mark 61 to a tape kind identification mark 66 which are continuously printed for indicating the kinds of members for preparing the tapes 35 and 49 for labels. The non-contact tape kind discriminating sensors 4 and 5 read the tape kind identification mark 61 to the tape kind identification mark 66 indicating the kinds of members for preparing the tapes 35 and 49 for labels which are continuously printed on the release paper 16.
