PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detecting device which can effect stable and high reliable detection of an ion current without being influenced by a change of the operation state of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: In the ion current detecting device provided with a primary coil 3 where on-off control of a primary current is carried out by electronic control; a secondary coil 4 electromagnetically coupled to the primary coil 3 and feeding a high voltage to an ignition plug PLUG; detecting circuits 41 and 42 to detect an ion current generated in a combustion chamber by combustion operation based on ignition operation of an ignition plug; and a coil case 1 to carry connotation of the primary coil 3 and the secondary coil 4, the coil case 1 is formed of a resin material having electric insulation and meanwhile a core 24 made of iron is situated at the inside of the coil case 1.
