<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dope production apparatus and a dope production method capable of providing an improved cooling efficiency and improved kneading capacity and giving a dope excellent in uniformity and the state of being dissolved. <P>SOLUTION: TAC is swollen in a solvent to prepare a stock solution 15. An extruder 11 is cooled by passing a refrigerant 35a and 35b at -75°C therethrough. The extruder 11 is provided with twin screws and is of a compression type in which the helical blade of each of the twin screws has a screw pitch decreasing toward the downstream side. The twin screws are in mesh with each other and are rotated in the same direction. The stock solution 15 is fed into the extruder 11 and is cooled and pumped under compression. TAC dissolves in the solvent to form a dope 18. By pumping the dope 18 to a cooler 12 for further cooling, the dope 18 can reach a further improved state of being dissolved. By pumping the dope 18 then to a heater 13, it can acquire improved fluidity and consequent easy pumpability.
