<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a power save mode preventing reduction of performance, in a data storage device. <P>SOLUTION: When an HDD 1 that is one example of this data storage device receives transition requirement (PMREQ) to the power save mode from a host 51 (S11), the HDD 1 decides whether to transit a serial interface part 236 to the power save mode or not on the basis of an execution state of a command (S12). When determining not to perform the transition, the HDD 1 transmits a response (PMNACK) of denial to the host 51 (S13), and keeps the serial interface part 236 in an active mode.
