PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a software protecting method that does not give disadvantage to a user even while surely preventing software from being illegally used. SOLUTION: Whether a hardware key (dongle) corresponding to the software is correctly connected to a device to be a control target of the software is checked (S401), and when it is judged that the hardware key is not correctly connected, unconnection mode control (S406) for lowering the throughput of the device is performed by selection by the user (S405).
