PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake control device capable of enhancing the pedal operability before the step-in quantity of a brake pedal reaches a predetermined value when a system is normal, and preventing an increase in the pedal stroke when the system is abnormal. SOLUTION: A communication passage shut-off valve 40 is opened before the step-in quantity of a brake pedal 2 reaches a predetermined value when a system is normal, and a primary pressure generation chamber 4d is communicated with a back-pressure chamber 4i via a first reservoir communication passage 28 and a second reservoir communication passage 30 to permit the flow of a working fluid from the primary pressure generation chamber 4d to the back-pressure chamber 4i. When the brake pedal 2 is stepped in if the system is abnormal, the communication passage shut-off valve 40 is closed to make the primary pressure generation chamber and the back-pressure chamber 4i in a non-communicated state with each other.
