A method for manufacturing a piercing element in which from a flat surface material by mounting a mask (24) and effecting an etching device, a flat molded/shaped part is formed. The mask (24) has a shaped/molded region (30) for formation of a point and an outward extending screening region (32) towards frontal etching of the point, and a bilateral under-etching, the side flanks of the molded or shaped screening part (32) a sharp point is exposed.
