A cold liquefied gas storage container 10 at substantially atmospheric pressure is supported within a ground excavation 14 so as to be spaced from sloping sides 16 and floor 18 thereof on a wooden deck 20 and wooden piles 22 and the space between the container wall 26 and sides 16 is in part filled with secondary heat insulation material 30, e.g. sawdust, retained by a wall 28, the space beneath bottom 14 is in part filled with a sawdust layer 32 above which is a layer of primary heat insulating material 40, e.g. bags of perlite, which material also lines the retaining wall 28 and the container roof 42 is also covered with a layer of perlite 50 which extends over at least a portion of the space between the container wall 26 and the sloping wall 16. The container roof 42 is supported by a vertical centre post 45 which also supports a weather-proof roof 52 covered by a layer of rubberized asphalt 36 which extends as a beam over the insulation material 30. The excavation wall 16 and floor 18 may be lined by a water-tight membrane of pitch 33. |
