<p>A supplementary blade 10 for a speculum 12, the speculum 12 having a plurality of primary blades 14, 16 movable relative to each other for opening and closing, the supplementary blade 10 having an anchor 60 attachable to the speculum 12 and a blade movable with respect to the anchor 60 which is shaped to interact with and move in response to opening at least one primary blade 14, 16. Preferably the supplementary blade 10 returns to a retracted position when the primary blades 14, 16 close. The supplementary blades 10 may lie outside the primary blades 14, 16 and may also be used to lengthen them. The speculum 12 may have a handle with a ratchet mechanism to lock the blades in an open position. At least part of the speculum 12 may be supplied in a lubricated package.</p> |
