The invention relates to a method for distinguishing between wet and dry gas with a breath-alcohol measuring device, in which a defined sample volume is fed to an electrochemical sensor (6) for the purpose of taking a sample from a blown-in gas, which sensor generates a sensor signal dependent on the conversion of ethanol, the sensor signal is passed on to a control and analysis unit (4) and analysed there to determine an alcohol concentration. In order to distinguish between dry and wet gas, provision is made such that the sensor signal is detected in its time dependence and that, if it is ascertained in the control and analysis unit (4) that, at the start of sampling, a sensor signal with opposite polarity to the sensor signal caused by the conversion of ethanol has first occurred, the presence of wet gas is ascertained. The method can be used for example in connection with the calibration of breath-alcohol measuring devices and in so-called interlock systems with a breath-alcohol measuring device in order to recognise manipulation attempts. |
