A magnetic axial bearing consists of stationary annular magnets interacting with rings (46) of ferro-magnetic material left by recesses (47) cut in the rotor shaft (4). The corners between the sides (50) and outer circumference (58) are broken, have a radius (48) or are chamfered. There is a radius (51), e.g. 7 mm, between the sides (50) and the root surface (49) of the recesses.
