Fluid mixture for testing the operation of a smoke detector

The fluid, for testing the performance of smoke detectors, is a mixture of a spray propellant and an aerosol which is liquid at ambient temperatures and atmospheric pressure to give droplets. The aerosol is at least one of the groups of sebacic acid-bis-2-ethyl-hexyl ester, sebacic acid diester with various ester groups, liquid paraffin, phthalic acid-dibutyl ester, phthalic acid-bis-2-ethyl-hexyl ester and triethylene glycol. The spray pressure is from a gas of dimethyl ether or nitrogen and preferably carbon dioxide.
