An electrical contact device provides a sliding contact between a resilient length of wire 16 (Fig. 3) and a second relatively movable conductive member 12, said wire 16 being held by the pressure of member 12 slidably in a conductively lined passage 28 in a retaining member 14. In a preferred embodiment, two such wires 16 are held in tube 28 solely by pressure exerted against the tube and the radial pressure against slip-ring 34, thus permitting free rotation of each of the wires about an axis of tube 28, and ensuring precise alignment of the wires in the slip-ring grooves 34. The slip-ring assembly (Fig. 1) is mounted on ball-bearings 24 and 26 for relative movement with respect to the electrical brush assembly 14. Leads 20 are connected to sleeves 28, and leads 22 are potted within an insulating core inside the slipring assembly 12. Brushes and commutators of the same material may be employed, and both contact surfaces may.be gold plated. |
