MULTIFUNCTIONAL, BIODEGRADABLE CORROSION INHIBITORS HAVING LOW TOXICITY.

Described herein are multifunctional compounds from the structural formula shown in fig. 1, where R is a lineal or branched alkyl chain or an alkenyl residue which length is within a range of from about 1 carbon atom to about 30 carbon atoms, or where R is a cycloalkyl or aryl residual group containing from about 5 carbon atoms to about 12 carbon atoms, X being an heteroatom selected from the oxygen, nitrogen or sulphur group. The present compounds showed to be highly effective for controlling corrosion produced in aqueous and hydrocarbon media in oil, petrochemical and chemical industries. The results of biodegradability and acute toxicity tests have shown that such compounds may be considered as quickly degradable having a low toxicity to marine microorganisms.
