An aqueous dispersion for nail enamel containing a copolymer (E) having a weight-average molecular weight of 1 x104 to 4 x10 4 in terms of polystyrene as determined by GPC, which is produced by polymerizing 100 parts by weight of a monomer mixture consisting of a monomer (A) selected from among tert-butyl (meth)acrylate, cyclohexyl (meth)acrylate and benzyl (meth)acrylate and one or more other radical - polymerizable unsaturated monomers (B) in an aqueous medium in the presence of 0.1 to 10.0 parts by weight of (HS-CH2-CH2- COO)n-R.
