The device has a control shaft (2) traversing crossheads (C1-C7) perpendicular to a plane of crossheads. The shaft has passage units (Pl-P7) that are spaced along the shaft at a distance identical to a distance separating lower and upper actuating units (M3, M51, M62, M74). The actuating units engage two successive gear ratios. Each passage unit has an off center boss cooperating with each crosshead to move it on rotation of the shaft.
