A variable trigger linkage (54) has a push rod (80) connectable with a near position (46) of activating levers (38,39) and a gear pin (72) connectable with a gear wheel (114) in a far position of levers. When the linkage is connected to the lever at the far position, a greater force is applied to a tool head (35) than the force obtained when the linkage is connected to the lever at the near position.
