Lubricant-coated sheet metal comprises a layer formed by applying a solution containing a phosphate ester onto the metal surface. Independent claims are also included for: (1) production of sheet metal as above by applying the solution to one or both sides of the sheet and applying a lubricant to the coated sheet; (2) aqueous solution for treating metal surfaces, comprising a phosphate ester and a water-soluble organosulfur compound and/or an organomolybdenum compound; (3) concentrate for preparing a solution as above.
