Optical disk drive system e.g. for DVD-RAM reads data from optical disk to determine data segment identifier of last data segment written to optical disk at the time write operation is halted

The read/write unit reads the data from optical disk to determine a data segment identifier of a last data segment written to the optical disk at the time the write operation is halted. The determined identifier is recorded in the optical disk. The write controller locates a last data segment corresponding to the data segment identifier written in optical disk when write operation is interrupted, and recommences writing of data segment to the optical disk at the located data segment. An independent claim is also included for data recording method.
