<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peripheral processing system in which large storage capacity can be easily obtained while suppressing increase in the possibility of malfunctions of the system without reducing a response speed, and also to provide a connection apparatus, an external apparatus, a processing method, and a program. <P>SOLUTION: The peripheral processing system 1 is constituted of a virtual memory card 2 and the external apparatus 3. The virtual memory card 2 is provided with an input/output device 11 whose connection type is based on the input/output standard of the memory card, an insertion/ejection emulation circuit 16 capable of virtually executing insertion/ejection into/from a PC 4 and a card storage part 15 having a function similar to the storage part of the memory card. The external apparatus 3 is communicable with the virtual memory card 2, and provided with an HDD 26 to be functioned as the storage part of the peripheral processing system 1.
