PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foreign matter detector capable of carrying out detection sensitivity adjustment and selection confirmation work accompanied with feed of a test piece, in a short time. SOLUTION: This foreign matter detector provided with a conveying pipe 11 formed with a conveying route 11pw for a test object, and foreign matter detecting means 12, 13 for detecting a foreign matter contained in the inspected object in a conveying direction prescribed position is provided with a branch pipe 51 attached to the conveying pipe 11 between a supply position with the test object supplied to the conveying route and the inspection position, for forming a branch passage 51pw branched from the conveying route 11pw in a conveying direction upstream of the inspection position 11a, and for forming a test piece feed port 51e, a valve 52 attached to the branch pipe 51 to communicate and block the branch passage 51pw with/from the conveying route 11pw, and a biasing means 55 for biasing the test piece fed into the feed port 51e to a conveying route 11pw side, when the valve 52 is opened.
