PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short-circuit detector capable of simplifying system constitution and finishing a process of discriminating whether short circuit is occurring, at one sitting. SOLUTION: The detector is provided with a switching means SW1 for short-circuit detection which is freely connecting or separating the direct current source 2 insulated from the ground electric potential 1 and the other side of a capacitor 3 for charging, a switching means SW2 for discharging which is freely connects or separates to/from the other side of the capacitor 3 and the other side of the discharging resistor 4, and a control means 5, respectively executing a connection process for detection to make the switch means SW1 for short-circuit detection connecting state, a voltage detection process to detect an inter-terminal voltage of the capacitor 3 or a short-circuit discriminating processing to discriminate whether the direct current source 2 is short-circuited. The switch means SW1 for short-circuit detection is provided in the state connecting the intermediate potential part between the anode and cathode in the direct current source 2 and the other side of the capacitor 3.
