A hoist for an elevator, comprising a motor that has a motor body and a rotary shaft rotatable about the motor body and has a boss, which is a handle fixation/removal member, secured to the rotary shaft. A manual handle for turning the rotary shaft can be removably fixed to the boss. The boss is provided with a rotation prevention portion for preventing, when the manual handle is fixed to the boss, the manual handle from rotating in the direction of rotation of the rotary shaft.
